A different pace than I am used to, so wasn't as in a hurry as I needed today. However, I'd certainly come back when I had more time. Service was very good, just not enough of them to get you in and out very fast but that would make it fine if you had time to really enjoy your meal and time with friends or family. I had mussels and a house salad and other than I would have liked more dressing, it tasted very good

This is a great place to have an Italian food restaurant. It is a smaller place with about 25 tables plus a patio for the summer but otherwise everything is great about the place. The meals are a good selection with somewhat larger portions, and very tasty on. I had the linguine Romero and the shrimp and scallops were very tasty and seemed to be fresh.  The wine selection is not extensive but I just had the house wine and it was great. The prices are reasonable and the service is great. We were there on a Monday night and although we did not need a reservation the place was almost full. This is definitely a place to visit when in the area.

I had chicken souvlaki ($19.50) it came with two small chicken skewers,  French fries and rice and Greek salad. I had to take one skewer home.  Nothing spectacular about their food or ambiance. There were only seniors around us. Their decor was so 80 ' isn.  Refills:  I'm so used to " refills " soft drinks & lemonade/ tea so I was a bit dumbfounded when the waitress said " no refills " ( no good ! )

Our friends decided to treat us to a birthday dinner; as our one companion was very much craving a veal parm on a bun, we decided on Italian for the night.

Our first stop, what had once been voted a best new restaurant in Guelph, had closed down (oops, missed it!); I can honestly say I wish I had recommended Romero's in the first place. Our friends had never been, but we had been several times before. We arrived just past 6 on a Saturday evening, and were lucky to get one of the last non-reserved tables of the night (make a reservation; this restaurant is well worth it!).

Our friends each ordered a Caesar salad, and we ordered the special soups of the night: a cream of tomato soup, and a Boston clam chowder. Our friends raved about the Caesar, and I enjoyed my chowder. Both soups were served piping hot; I never got the impression these were left to simmer in the kitchen for any length of time.

For our entrées, our friends ordered a veal parmesan and a pasta platter special, and we ordered a veal parm and the chicken special, which was a grilled chicken breast with scallops, shrimp, and asparagus in a cream sauce topped with cheese. This is not something I would typically order in a restaurant (I have had the veal parm at least twice now and it is spectacular), but I'm so glad I was adventurous enough to try it. Again, our companions informed the proprietor how impressed they were that all our dishes were piping hot (the proprietor, upon hearing our friends' surprise, asked, "How else would you serve it?").

I suppose the staff overheard that we were celebrating three of our birthdays this month and brought over a slice of Bailey's cheesecake with "Happy Birthday" written in sauce on the plate. You can tell the folks here are very passionate about good food; the proprietor is always on the restaurant floor with a big smile on his face, making it his business to make sure your smile is as big as his. The waitstaff were very attentive; despite there being only two servers on hand that night, and seeing the poor young ladies run off their feet, they did a great job making sure everyone had everything they needed.

I won't comment on décor, as unless there's something dead in a corner (happened to me in a pub in Burlington) or something dripping on my plate from above, I really couldn't care less. Prices are appropriate to the quality and care put into the dishes from the kitchen staff. I had only begun visiting Romero's myself in the past two years, and our friends had never been, despite this wonderful gem being in our city for the past nineteen years in two locations. If you are looking for excellent Italian food with an amiable host, Romero's should be at the top of your list.

My wife and I have enjoyed many meals together at Romero's at their present location on Elmira and at their old location. The food is good and consistent and Sammy and his staff are always friendly and professional.

We had not been for awhile but decided to spend another anniversary at Romero's, As usual the Caesar salads were very good as were our entrees. I decided to try the Fettucine Alfredo which I had never had here before. It was one of the best I have ever had. It was obvious that the cream was freshly made and not from a can or outsourced.

Sadly though we did not receive complimentry bread which we have always in the past. Did not notice it on other's tables as well. Also, it must be said that this restaurant is in need of some TLC or renovations. The carpeting is long past its useful life and does nothing to add to the Italian atmosphere of the place. The banquet style chairs are also ugly and uncomfortable.

We still love the place and will continue to come here as part of our staple restaurants we visit. At one time Romero's was really the only Italian restaurant I would recommend in Guelph. With Buon Gusto and La Cucina in town I think Romeros needs to reinvent themselves a bit.
